Many of our customers often query from us as to how they are required to care for their pop art portraits. The common questions that we are asked are regarding the portrait display, cleaning and protection from bugs, insect and mold. In this blog, we try to address care tips that will enhance the life of your artwork.
Indoor or Outdoor
Portraits on canvas, digital print, wood and natural slate are more prone to changes in temperature and humidity as compared to those on ceramic. It is better to display the former inside a house, while portraits on tiles can be used for outdoor displays.
To use focus lights or not
Focus lights do tend to enhance the look of your artwork, but can tend to damage it over a long period of light exposure. Fading is quite commonly seen in overexposed portraits. While you can use focus lights, restrict their usage as much as possible. Also use low incandescent lighting that does not heat up portraits as much.
Cleaning procedure
A soft lint free cloth is usually the best way to clean portraits. If the portrait has been damaged by wet paints, mold or other causes, it will need the attention of a professional for cleaning it up.
Transporting portraits
It is important to securely pack your artwork while transporting it over long distances. Use multiple layers of soft bubble wrap and cover the artwork well so it does not get damaged.
Framing procedures
At Personal Art, portraits are not framed in glass but are rather stretched on to a wooden frame. Canvas needs space to breathe, and laminating it or placing glass on it can reduce breathing space and lead to development of mold over a period of time. If you want the portrait to be framed, opt for digital prints instead.
The above tips have been outlined keeping our customer’s most basic queries in mind. If you have a query that has not been answered here, feel free to write to us at info@personal-art.me.uk, and our support staff will be ready to assist you.
